A Wisconsin group advocating the separation of church and state plans to sue the city for playing a role in the demise of a billboard on Archibald Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.
Last Thursday, Redevelopment Director Linda Daniels said a member of her staff had informed the sign company about the 90 complaints the city received regarding the billboard.
“We contacted the sign company and asked if there was a way to get it removed,” Daniels told the Daily Bulletin.
On Friday, Daniels denied making the comment.

It’s bad enough that this woman was denied access to counseling because she was in jail for two days due to the outstanding warrant. That alone will send the chilling message to future rape victims that reporting their own rape to the police might not be in their best interests, causing just that many more women to not come forward. That alone is just plain bad. I’m sure the police could have handled the situation a LOT better.
But the part that switches my blood from chilled to boiling is the little throw-away bit about the jail nurse:
Adding to the mother’s ire is her claim that a jail nurse prevented her daughter from taking a second dose of emergency contraception prescribed by a nurse at a clinic as part of a rape examination. The jail nurse, said the mother and the victim’s attorney, denied the medication for religious reasons.
Yeah, gosh, who cares if the woman might have to endure an unwanted pregnancy from the rape and face all sorts of emotional and physical hardships on top of the trauma of having been raped… what could that possible measure against her “soul”? ( and for those that can’t tell from the writing, that sentence was meant to be read as SARCASM)
You know what, miss jail nurse? How about you just do your fucking JOB and leave religious beliefs up to the individual instead of foisting YOUR “morals” on some poor traumatized victim? And if you can’t separate your religious delusions from your professional responsibilities then maybe you should be looking for a different line of work.
It would be nice to see that nurse sued for denying medical assistance.
And my contempt for religion just continues to grow and grow and grow…
“If you’ve been waiting until the Christian fascist movement started filling stadiums with young people and hyping them up to do battle in “God’s army” to get alarmed, wait no longer.
In recent weeks, Battle Cry, a Christian fundamentalist youth movement, has attracted more than 25,000 to mega-rally rock concerts in San Francisco and Detroit and this weekend they plan to fill Wachovia Stadium in Philadelphia.”
I wonder at what point they’re going to drop all the pretext of civility and just start handing out the brown shirts and swastika arm bands?

I love his “diamond in the back yard” analogy. It’s well worth watching for 23 minutes.
